Tattoo Aftercare

1. Initial Care (First 24 Hours

- Keep it covered: Leave the bandage on for at least 2-4 hours to protect the tattoo from bacteria and friction. If you have 'second skin' bandage you can leave on for about 3 days. If the protection is broken, take off.

- Clean hands: Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo or applying any products.

2. Cleaning Your Tattoo

- Remove the bandage: After 2-4 hours, gently remove the bandage.
- Wash: Clean the tattoo with lukewarm to cold water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use your fingertips; avoid washcloths or sponges.
- Pat dry: Gently pat the area dry with a clean paper towel, do not rub.

3. Moisturizing

- Apply ointment: Use a thin layer of a recommended healing ointment and/or fragrance-free moisturizer after every wash. 

4. Daily Care (Weeks 2-4)

- Wash: Clean your tattoo twice a day using mild soap and water.
- Moisturize: Keep the tattoo moisturized, applying lotion as needed to prevent dryness and itching.
- Avoid tight clothing: Wear loose clothing over the tattoo to prevent irritation.

5. What to Avoid

- Do not pick or scratch: Let any scabbing or peeling occur naturally or you risk loosing ink in your tattoo and scarring.
- Avoid soaking: Refrain from soaking the tattoo in baths, pools, or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks.
- No direct sun exposure: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. After healing, use sunscreen (SPF 30+) to protect your tattoo.
- Avoid strenuous activities: Minimize heavy workouts or activities that cause excessive sweating for the first week.

6. Signs of Infection

Monitor your tattoo for signs of infection, which can include:
- Increased redness or swelling
- Pus or unusual discharge
- Fever or chills

If you experience any of these symptoms, contact a healthcare professional immediately.

7. Follow-Up Care

Your tattoo should fully heal within 2-4 weeks. Once healed, continue to care for your tattoo by moisturizing regularly and protecting it from sun exposure.

General Aftercare Guidelines
1. Wash Your Hands:

Always wash your hands with soap and water before touching your piercing or changing jewelry.

2. Clean the Piercing:
- Use a saline solution or a saline wound wash (like a sterile saline spray).
- Clean the piercing twice a day (morning and night).

3. Avoid Certain Products:
- Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments, as these can irritate the piercing and delay healing. (No pyrisept / Chlorhexidine)

4. Do Not Touch/Twist the Jewelry:

Avoid playing with your piercing or twisting the jewelry, as this can introduce bacteria and irritate the area.

5. Avoid Soaking:

Refrain from swimming in pools, hot tubs, or bodies of water until your piercing is fully healed. Showers are fine, make sure to properly rinse soap out)

6. Protect Your Piercing:
- Avoid tight clothing or accessories that may rub against the piercing.
- Be cautious during sports or physical activities to prevent trauma.

 

Specific Tips/aftercare for different piercings
Ear Piercings:
- Sleep on your back to prevent pressure on the piercing. Switching sheets a bit more often is reccommended.
Nose Piercings:
- Be mindful when blowing your nose. Consider using a saline nasal spray to keep the area moist.

Oral Piercings:
- Rinse your mouth with a saline solution or alcohol-free mouthwash after meals.
- Avoid spicy or irritating foods for the first few weeks.

-Avoid smoking/snus for the first few weeks.

Body Piercings:
- Wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid friction on the piercing.

 

Signs of Inflamation/Infection
- Redness, swelling, or increased pain around the piercing
- Unusual discharge (especially if it's green or has an odor)
- Fever or chills
- If you notice any of these symptoms, contact us or a healthcare professional.

Healing Time
- Ear lobe: 6-8 weeks
- Cartilage: 6-12 months
- Nose: 2-4 months

- Belly button: 3-6 months. May take up to 1 year.
- Oral: 4-6 weeks
- Other body piercings: 2-12 months

Follow-Up
- Schedule a check-up with your piercer if you have any concerns.
- After the healing period, downsizing jewelry should be done.

-Always use proper jewelry material such as: Titanium and medical grade stainless steel. If you have an allergy to nickel you should only use Titanium.​
